It should be emphasized that the CD player carries only two-channel signal - therefore it is not recommended to use it with home cinema. Its advantage is definitely higher quality of generated two-channel sound- unsurpassed for any Blu-ray/DVD.
Modern CD players often have USB input for digital files, they can also play audio files from recordable CD-R. Some of them also have networking features with an Ethernet port, allowing to obtain music from an external server.
